Japan Invents Inflatable Concert Hall???????

Japan has done it again introducing us to the world’s first inflatable, mobile concert hall   (one sentence I never thought I would write).

The creative structure is the result of a collaboration between Arata Isozaki, Yasuhisa Toyota, Kajimoto Agency, and sculptor Amish Kapoor.  The design process started in 2011 with the goal of creating a low-cost solution for holding traveling relief concerts after tsunamis destroyed Japan’s Miyagi Prefecture in March 2011.

Set up/inflation takes just two hours.  With a maximum capacity of 700, the 30×36 meter venue is modeled aftet Kapoor’s 2001 Leviathan installation.

Will this be the new trend in concerts?  Will the structure start making appearances stateside?  Can the concert hall be popped with a knife?  These are all questions running through my head.  The inflatable concert hall is both awesome and kind of creepy at the same time.  I image it would create a very unforgettable concert atmosphere.
